Roadtrip Back to Bangkok (27 April 2019)

Back to Bangkok

Back to Bangkok

We had to bid farewell to Khao Yai and made our way back to Bangkok to meet up with our friend. Before heading back to Bangkok, we decided to drop by Dairy Home for lunch and ice cream. Yes, it is so good that we decided to drop by again before bidding the final farewell to Khao Yai.

Back to Bangkok - Puppy

At Dairy Farm, we get to meet a puppy after we parked our car. A very playful little fellow. We had fun interacting with him before we head in for steaks. Kind of miss him already while I’m typing this blog entry.

Baan Tobi Hom

Baan Toei Hom

Returning the car at the airport can be confusing because the signs weren’t obvious and we had to turn out and enter again. Thankfully, we managed to return without much issue. After which, we took their MRT towards our Airbnb.

Back to Bangkok - Baan Toei Hom

We stayed at Baan Tobi Hom, which is a shophouse where the owners open a small eatery. We’ll be staying upstairs so we had to carry our luggage up a few flights of stairs. Since we arrived first before the friend, we decided to choose our bedroom first. We took the bigger sized bedroom while we let him have a smaller room.

After a short rest and settled our stuff, we decided to head out to the nearest mall to see what’s for dinner.

Movie – Avengers: End Game

Movie Ticket

We decided to watch Avengers: End Game. While we were at the self serve counter, every timing that we clicked, it’s full. But we managed to get two seats for a 7 pm show. While we were waiting for the time, we decided to head over to Macdonald’s for a quick dinner.

Our friend’s flight got delayed a little thus he couldn’t make it in time to join us. Thus he had to settle his own dinner while we were off to watch a movie.

I was told that before every movie in Thailand, we all had to stand in attention for their national anthem with a short video clip of their King. I am glad that at least I got this piece of information if not I wouldn’t know what to do.

Avengers: End Game was a 3-hour long movie. A battle between the Avengers and Thanos. So glad to be able to see Thor and Captain America again. Or rather Christ Hemsworth and Chris Evans. Yes, fangirl here!

Back to Bangkok - Last Train

The movie ended around 11 pm. We had to follow the other moviegoers to exit the mall as it was already closed when we made our way out of the cinema. Thankfully, there’s still MRT for us to get back to our Airbnb. And yes, we managed to catch the last train home.

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel

Vers (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel) on a mission to hunt for Skrulls which brought her to earth where she discovers that she is not what she believes she is. During her time on earth, she met Fury who works in SHIELD. With help from Fury, she discovers the truth and unleashed her true power.

My Thoughts

Being a Marvel fan and knowing Captain Marvel will appear in Avengers: End Game, it’s a must watch. We decided to have a late night movie at Bishan Junction 8, a 10:30 pm movie. Knowing the movie will end really late and there’ll be no bus back, we planned to walk home instead.

The start of the movie is a short clip in honor of Stan Lee. It’s a bit saddening to know that in future Marvel movies, there won’t be any cameo of him. Somehow, it’s quite warming to see him appear in this, probably the last cameo before he went to heaven. Thank you Stan Lee for everything about Marvel.

I was told that the movie is predictable. But to me, as much as it’s predictable, it’s still a nice movie. Considering the effects that went into it, I would pretty much say it’s quite convincing and realistic.

The entire movie, I quite like how comical it can get when it comes to Goose, the cat. As an animal lover, seeing a cat in the movie brings some shine into my eyes. It perks me up the entire movie waiting for another scene of Goose.

For Marvel fans, this is another must watch movie!

Inspector Gadget (1999)

Inspector Gadget

Jonathan Brown (Matthew Broderick) a security guard dreamt of helping people by being a police officer. However, due to an accident, he was injured and woke up finding himself being totally different than before.

Brenda (Joely Fisher) whose father got killed after an attack to their lab decided to finish what her father had started. She chose Brown to be first test subject for a gadget program due to his devotion in finding her father’s murderer.

Both unknowingly got into an adventure together with Jonathan’s niece, Penny (Michelle Trachtenberg), her dog Brain and the Gadgetmobile.

My Reviews

I remembered watching Inspector Gadget cartoon version on TV when I was young. I didn’t even know that there’s a movie of this cartoon series that I’ve been watching. Even so, I was still a student and doesn’t have the money to watch it at the cinema.

Recently I made a Disney movie list and Inspector Gadget was one of it. Frankly speaking, I don’t remember how Jonathan Brown became a robotic gadget guy. Somehow this movie does bring back some memories from childhood.

I can’t really comment much on the story plot as to me, it was quite predictable. But hey, their target audience probably would be for kids so as an adult watching it, there’s not much of a surprise element. But nevertheless, it’s a good movie for adults like me who have watched Inspector Gadget when they’re young.

Definitely recommending this old movie for those who have yet to watch it.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

fantastic beasts the crimes of grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

It is a continuous movie of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We last saw that Gellert Grindelwald was captured by MACUSA and that Credence was assumed dead by everyone.

The Crimes of Grindelwald revealed how he broke free and gather his followers in preparation for what he had planned. It is like a start of the Wizarding War, the time before Lord Voldemort.

My Thoughts

As a Potterhead, I’ve been waiting for this movie to be released with anticipation. When the time finally came, I was very excited and have a lot of hopes for it. After all, it’s a whole new movie story written that doesn’t come from a book.

I believed there are people who might be disappointed but to me, it’s a whole new adventure to this magical world. But of course, the ones that I’m more excited to see was Newt Scamander his Niffler. Yes, Niffler is now my favourite magical animal and would so love to have one myself.

There are a lot of questions that I would like to ask J.K Rowling after the movies. There is so many new information in this movie which left us wanting more answers. However, all we could do was make guesses and wait for the next movie.

Yes, it’s definitely a recommended movie for all Potterheads. Don’t be disappointed in the movie, as I believe the best has yet to come.

Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief (Book)

Percy Jackson The Lightning Thiefpercy jackson the lightning thief

I only started reading Percy Jackson recently and finally finished the first book. While reading through, I was like wow. There are so many new adventures of Percy Jackson that I didn’t know of in the first book.

I have been quite fascinated by the Greek god mythology and have been keen to read Percy Jackson for quite some time. Finally, I decided to just go ahead and read the first book despite having a long list of to-read books.

Book vs Movie

I would say, I love the book more. The movie seems to have changed the storyline and left out a lot of information. The adventures in the book seem to be more exciting to me compared to the movie.

It is like the Harry Potter series where we would compare between the books and movies. However, I would say that the Harry Potter movies tried to follow the books as much as possible and don’t change such drastically. Which didn’t really disappoint me much.

But Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief book and movie does have a huge difference. The storyline to me changed a lot which made me question does the scriptwriter of the movie even actually read the book? I understand that there’s a need to squeeze as much information as possible onto the big screen, but please don’t change almost the entire plot. It made me feel that the movie that I watched isn’t what the story should be.

My Reviews

So, my review will be base on the book and not the movie. I’ll give my opinion about what I feel after reading since I’ve ranted about my displeasure about the movies.

Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief opens another adventure for me about the Greek mythology. The first that got me interested in the Greek gods was Hercules. It’s a fresh new story and adventures. Got to know more about the Greek gods after reading Percy Jackson and of course thanks to Google, where I get most of my information from.

I would say, I highly recommend this book if you’re into Greek gods mythology. You’ll understand and know more between Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, the big 3 according to the book. Following the adventure of Percy and his friends, I was introduced to more mythical creatures, both evil and good. The book taught me one valuable lesson, and that is not everyone can be trusted even if they’re someone near or close to you.

Will be moving on to the next book where a new adventure awaits.

Japan – Heading Home (22 Oct 2017)

Haneda Airport

heading home

This marks the end of our Japan trip as we headed to Haneda Airport early in the morning. As much as we didn’t want to leave, we were hoping that the typhoon will hit Tokyo earlier than expected. Yes, we’ve been following Japan news for a few days and they predicted typhoon will arrive on the 23rd Oct 2017. That explains the strong wind and rain the past few days. According to the news, many Japanese were already preparing ahead before the bad weather arrives. This is how efficient the Japanese are! I’m pretty much amazed at whatever they do.

Departure – Japan to Thailand

As we made our way to the departure gate at Haneda airport, I had the sad feeling. I didn’t want to leave and I really love Japan in so many ways. I am sure many of us felt the same way especially if it is your first trip.

It was my first trip and I’m not sure when I will be back again. If there is an opportunity, I would love to move to Japan and start a whole new life there. And I know it’s kind of impossible due to their strict immigration rules and laws. But that’s OK, maybe in future when we have the money, we will have a longer trip! Which I am definitely looking forward to.

The flight towards Thailand, Bangkok, where we will be stopping for a while for a transit gave us enough time to watch an in-flight movie. We decided to watch Wonder Woman. We did pause the movie during meal time and we ended up didn’t finish the movie before arriving in Thailand.

Transit at Bangkok

mango sticky rice

We had about an hour or two before our flight home. The way to transit wasn’t a rush as when we were heading towards our flight to Japan a few weeks before. Less crowd on the transit route and yes, we had time to do a little shopping at the gift shop. Best of all, we had time to sit down for a quick bite of my favourite Thailand dessert, Mango Sticky Rice. However, it was costly though compared to the one that I could get along the street of Thailand. Nevertheless, I was satisfied. The only regret, I didn’t get one for takeaway.

After boarding our flight that will take us home, we continued our movie for Wonder Woman at where we stopped at. I wouldn’t say I like the movie, neither did I hate it. It was just another superhero movie that I’m just watching. Despite all the good reviews about it, I find it as an OK movie.

Home Sweet Home

Fluffy Bunny’s mother came to fetch us that night. Being back in Singapore seem to be a rather mixed feeling for me that night. It’s good to be home, but the other part of me doesn’t want the trip to end. But of course, I know that we will be back again someday. Not so soon, but we will head back to Japan. Speaking of which, I am already looking forward to my next trip.

Japan – Departure (28 Sept 2017)

Changi Airport Terminal 1 – Departure Day

Departure

We bought our tickets in January and it was on promotion. The price we got was fairly cheap for a trip to Japan.

Our ticket cost $422.20 per pax for a round trip. There will be a transit stopover at Bangkok airport which is fine with us. Usually, transit tickets are slightly cheaper than the direct flight. It depends on individual budget.

Thai airways allow online check-in and we did it a few hours before our flight. However, our email stated that we needed to visit the counter for check-in. Unsure what’s wrong and worried it could be our booking issue. After scrolling Facebook, I got to know the airport had some system issue and some flights data are affected. Thus both online and in-person check in at the counter took longer than usual to process. So glad we arrived at the airport early to avoid being late.

I was feeling excited upon arriving at the airport, but Fluffy Bunny wasn’t. According to her, she had to be on the airplane in order for the excitement to kick in.

Our flight was at 8:50 pm and we managed to have a cup of tea each and a toast to share before boarding.

We got the window seat which I am happy about. I get to see the outside as the plane slowly make its way for taking off. Although I do have phobia during taking off and landing, it still didn’t stop me from looking out of the plane window. I find it so interesting to see what’s going on on the outside. If I am lucky, I could see beautiful sunset or sunrise on the plane.

It’s been some time since I last took a non-budget flight. So glad there’s entertainment on the flight and we watched Guardians of the Galaxy 2. We didn’t manage to finish the entire movie on board as we were about to arrive at Bangkok for our transit flight.

Low sodium meal

We requested for a special meal when we booked our air tickets. Low sodium and low-calorie meals. If you want to get your food first, order the special meal. You get the food before everyone else.

Bangkok – Transit

Bangkok airport

The landing at Bangkok wasn’t a smooth ride. Before we start to descend, the captain announced there might be a slight delay for landing as there’s thunderstorm in Thailand. I have never met a thunderstorm before on board a flight.

While we slowly descend when it’s safe to do so, I could feel the plane was a little shaky. When the wheels touched the ground, it wasn’t as smooth as most flight that I have been on. Probably due to the wet surface. During this instance, I grabbed onto Fluffy Bunny’s hand rather tightly.

After alighting the aircraft, we had to make our way to our next boarding gate. We found the information counter to ask for direction and was told our next connecting flight is all the way in the east wing of the airport. We arrived at the west wing.

Seeing that the journey to the other end will be a long one, we hurried as fast as our little legs could carry us. We didn’t stop for shops as there’s simply no time for it. My Thai Bhat seems to be redundant that day.

East Wing transit queue was long that night. And the queue was moving rather slowly. After checking in, we stopped for a toilet break before heading towards our boarding gate. Which was at the furthest end of the boarding area.

Taking off during heavy rain was yet another new experience for me. It felt different from the usual take off on good weather. The excitement and worry were what went through my mind.

Low sodium sandwich

We had supper on the plane. Sandwich and it was what I needed. Got a little hungry after I alighted from the previous plane. This was my low sodium sandwich.

Low sodium breakfast

We slept through on the flight before waking up for our breakfast on the plane. Like the flight before, we had the special meal. So we get to eat first.

Once done with our meal, we continued watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 at where we stopped at. This time, we managed to finish the movie before we land. Around 5 hours of flight from Bangkok can be tiring.

I love the orange juice that I was given on board both flights. It’s not too sweet nor sour to my liking. However, I kept it in my bag for later as I was already full.

Movie Date

Many couples would probably have the typical movie date at the cinema. However, Fluffy Bunny and my movie date would be at the comfort of our home. We watched online through streaming.

For this movie, we watched it on her boss’s TV during our staycation at her workplace. If I didn’t remember wrongly, it’s under apple TV. Too many choices they have. Starhub cable TV, Netflix, and Apple TV. We scrolled through the options and I decided to watch The Last Witch Hunter. It’s a movie we both have not watch and I think it would be interesting enough.

The Last Witch Hunter

Before I watch this movie, I have no idea what it is about. I have not watched the trailer either. And absolutely no idea who the casts were. Not until I saw the main character was acted by Vin Diesel (Kaulder). It might be a movie around 2 years ago, but it’s never too late to enjoy a good movie.

Coming across the title, I was expecting the movie to be like Hansel & Gretel the Witch Hunter. Hunting and chasing witches. Killing them maybe. However, this was different. It is kind of the opposite where witches co-exist with humans. They have laws to follow and Kaulder is there to ensure everything is in order.

While Kaulder is on his journey to find out the truth from centuries ago, he became friends with a witch, Chloe, who offered her help. He came to realized the Order of the Axe and Cross isn’t what he think it is. There he knew the truth about the organization, the witch queen and him.

The thrill of the movie and tiny plot twist made the movie refreshing. It showed me a different side of witch hunting and not all witches are bad. Who says a witch can’t befriend a witch hunter?

Staycation At Fluffy Bunny’s Workplace

Stayover At Fluffy Bunny’s Workplace

staycation

Fluffy Bunny’s bosses had a work trip to attend to during the weekend. She had to stayover at her workplace and make sure the company’s servers are fine.

Staycation was what the boss described and I was welcome to spend the weekend. It’s been a long time since my last staycation with Fluffy Bunny. And I think it would be nice to enjoy the weekend off.

Staycation Day 1

Dessert

As I had an appointment on a Friday evening, I went over on the next day instead. After I am done running my errands in the morning, I head right to girlfriend’s workplace. The morning didn’t went well as the person I was supposed to meet didn’t turn up. Delayed my schedule but I decided it’s something I shouldn’t be upset about.

When I was about to reach, girlfriend texted me to let me know lunch was ready. It was fried bee hoon cooked by the boss’s mother.

We had a matcha flavored dessert after lunch. It’s a little too sweet for my liking. However, the matcha flavor was refreshing on a hot day. The crust is crunchy and goes well with the matcha. It sort of brings down the sweetness.

tea break

I was so tired even before I had lunch. In my mind, I was hoping to have a nap before heading out for my cousin’s wedding at Buona Vista, Rochester Park.

After napping for about an hour after lunch, I got woken up by a call. The next thing I know, I was having tea break with the girlfriend. It consist of a few slices of beef, a few spoonful of pasta with crab meat and two sausages. It was a filling tea break I would say. Didn’t feel hungry at all even when I was at the wedding.

Staycation Day 2

Breakfast

Since I had the weekend off from work, I decided to sleep in. Girlfriend tried to wake me up in the morning but she failed. As I took my own sweet time to get up, I was thinking what’s for breakfast.

Girlfriend decided to make me scramble egg. Something I requested. But I didn’t expect her to try making Gordon Ramsay version. It’s her first time trying and I would say delicious. The texture and taste was different from her usual scramble egg. Both versions are nice. Had different sausages which I didn’t really like. The skin of the sausage is too thick and unable to chew off easily. We ended up peeling the outer skin of sausages and eat the inner meat part.

the last witch hunter

We decided to watch a movie on the apple tv. Scrolling through movie titles and genres, we decided to watch The Last witch Hunter.

I was hoping to watch some nice chasing and killing witches, but I was so wrong. The plot came with a twist which I didn’t expect it. Probably it’s also a good idea of not knowing the story at all. You get all the surprises that comes with it.

lunch

Of course we had to have lunch as girlfriend had a headache. Usually it’s her headache that gives her the signal that she needed food. Her tummy doesn’t seem to feel hunger most of the time.

Head down to the kitchen and got myself a burger for lunch. She had a beef patty, lettuces and tomatoes. We do have different taste in food. Somehow I wasn’t feeling hungry but I had to eat. The toasted burger patty was so crispy that it goes well with the juicy beef patty.

harry potter and the sorcerer stone

After lunch, we headed back to the entertainment room where we watched a second movie. This time it’s from Starhub cable.

Enjoy the weekend while we can right?

dinner

We had chicken leg with some vegetables for dinner. The whole process from preparing to cooking took around an hour. I wasn’t hungry but with such nice chicken leg right in front, how can I resist it?

Staycation Day 3

tea break

Last day of my staycation and we had to get up early. It’s a Monday and we have work to do. Girlfriend and her colleague were busy with their own work while I was updating my work website.

Tea break at 3pm where I had Polar curry puff for the first time. Not to my liking as I prefer Old Chang Kee’s type. Nevertheless, it’s a nice change to try something new.

Stayed for dinner before heading home at around 8pm. Leaving the girlfriend alone to tend to the work’s servers.

It is nice to spend time together although she was there for work purpose. Now I really can’t wait to have a place of our own.
